“Meetings are Indispensable When You Don’t Wan to Do Anything.” -John Kenneth Galbraith
MEET OR NOT TO MEET? THAT IS THE QUESTION! Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous meetings, or to take arms against a sea of pointless gatherings, and by opposing, end them.
But seriously, MEETINGS CAN BE A HUGE WASTE OF TIME if not conducted properly. While regular TEAM MEETINGS are essential for project success, they can also become a source of frustration and time-wasting. Therefore, it’s important to ask yourself: Is it necessary? Can the same information be conveyed through a different channel? If the answer to any of these questions is no, then consider canceling the meeting or finding an alternative method of communication.
We could effectively facilitate team meetings with these styles, general agenda, and guidelines:
STAND-UP Meeting
15-30 minutes maximum
CHECKLIST and BULLETIN BOARD
Work STATUS and PROGRESS?
The present ISSUES and PROBLEMS?
What are we doing to RESOLVE them?
Any needed HELP and SUPPORT?
The individual DELIVERABLES?
HOW MUCH MORE COULD WE HAVE ACHIEVED IF ONLY WE HAD USED OUR RESOURCES MORE WISELY!
